What "automatic" means here
There are tools that fire off hundreds of applications to anything with a matching keyword. That is not what this is, and it is not what gets people hired. Jobofinder sends the applications you would have sent yourself, to the jobs you described, and it sends them sooner than you could.
It works on the employer's own careers page, the same form you would fill in by hand. It types in your name and contact details, attaches your CV, answers the questions you have answered before, and presses submit. The employer receives an ordinary application.
How it goes, step by step
- You add your details once. Name, contact details, your CV, and answers to the questions forms usually ask, such as your right to work and your notice period.
- You say which jobs you want. Job titles, country, town and distance, and the careers pages of employers you would like to work for.
- It keeps checking. Careers pages are read as often as every five minutes, around the clock, on our servers. Your phone and computer can be off.
- A matching job appears. The application is filled in and sent, or, if you chose "Ask me first", you get a yes-or-no question in the app or on WhatsApp.
- The form needs a person. A captcha, or a question you have not answered before: the application pauses and the form comes to you. You have 20 minutes, and the alert is repeated if you miss it.
- You see what was sent. Every application is listed with its status and the CV that went with it.
Where it can apply, and where it cannot
It applies by itself on careers pages built with eight widely used application systems: Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Recruitee, Workable, Teamtailor, Personio and Breezy. When you add an employer, Jobofinder tells you whether its page is one of these. If you are unsure what an application system is, see what an applicant tracking system is.
On any other careers page it reads the list of vacancies and tells you when one matches. Job-board adverts also arrive as alerts with a link. And it stays away from LinkedIn, Indeed, Naukri and Glassdoor accounts entirely; the reasons are in applying on LinkedIn, Indeed and other job boards.
What keeps it honest
- It never guesses an answer. A question it has not seen before is put to you, and your answer is remembered.
- It does not solve captchas. You do, on your phone, and the application carries on. More in captchas on job applications.
- Your CV stays yours. On the Pro plan the built-in AI can reword your CV to fit a posting. It works only from what your CV already says, and a "What changed" page shows each altered line beside your own wording.
- You set the pace. A daily limit per search, and the choice between applying straight away, asking first, or only telling you.
Is it for you?
It helps most when the jobs you want are advertised on employers' own careers pages and go quickly: graduate schemes, public-sector and transport recruitment, popular employers, and any field where a vacancy closes once enough people have applied. It helps less if every job you want is on a site that only takes applications from a signed-in account. Read the honest version in is it safe to automate job applications?
Common questions
Which sites can it apply on by itself?
Employers' own careers pages that run on Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Recruitee, Workable, Teamtailor, Personio or Breezy. These are application systems used by a great many employers. For other pages it reads the vacancies and tells you about matches, and you apply yourself.
Does it apply on LinkedIn or Indeed?
No. Jobofinder never signs in to LinkedIn, Indeed, Naukri or Glassdoor and does not accept their passwords, because their rules forbid automated applying. For those sites the Pro plan has a browser extension that fills in the form in your own browser when you press its button, and you press submit yourself.
What happens when there is a captcha?
The application pauses and you get an alert. You see the live form on your phone or computer, solve the captcha yourself, and the application continues. Jobofinder does not try to get round captchas.
Can it send applications I have not seen?
Only if you choose "Apply for me straight away". With "Ask me first" every match waits for your yes or no. Either way there is a limit on applications per day that you set, and a record of everything that was sent.
Will employers know an application was sent automatically?
The application arrives through the employer's normal form with your real details, like any other. Jobofinder does not disguise itself, and a few sites turn automated visitors away; when that happens you are told and can apply by hand with the link.
