What can go wrong
There are four real risks. Any tool you consider, including this one, should have an answer to each.
1. Applying to the wrong jobs
A tool that matches on a keyword and applies to everything sends your CV to jobs you are not suited to and would not take. Recruiters notice repeat applicants who do not fit, and it does not help the application that matters.
2. Saying things that are not true
Some tools fill in whatever makes the form go through: "yes" to every requirement, invented answers to questions, a CV rewritten with skills you do not have. That is your name on a false statement, and it surfaces at interview or when documents are checked.
3. Breaking a site's rules with your account
LinkedIn, Indeed and similar sites forbid automated use of an account and close accounts that do it. A tool that needs your password for one of them is putting that account at risk. More in applying on LinkedIn, Indeed and other job boards.
4. Handing over your personal data
An application contains your address, phone number, work history and sometimes identity details. You should know where that is stored, who can see it, and how to delete it.
Questions to ask of any tool
- Where exactly does it apply, and does it need my passwords for other sites?
- What does it do when a form asks something it does not know?
- What does it do when there is a captcha?
- Does it change my CV, and can I see exactly what it changed?
- Can I see every application it sent?
- Can I make it ask me first, and limit how many it sends?
- Can I download and delete my data?
How Jobofinder answers them
| Question | What Jobofinder does |
|---|---|
| Where does it apply? | On employers' own careers pages. It never signs in to LinkedIn, Indeed, Naukri or Glassdoor and does not accept their passwords. |
| An unknown question? | The application pauses and the question comes to you. It never guesses. |
| A captcha? | It pauses and shows you the live form. You solve it. It does not use solving services. |
| Changes to the CV? | Only on the Pro plan and only if you leave tailoring on. It works from your own CV, and a "What changed" page shows every altered line. |
| A record? | Every application is listed with its status, the form's steps, and the CV that was sent. |
| Control? | "Ask me first" for a yes or no on each job, and a daily limit you set. |
| Your data? | Stored encrypted. Download it or delete your account at any time. |
What it cannot promise
It is fair to say what this does not do. It does not get you the job; it gets your application in early and complete. It cannot apply everywhere: where a site refuses automated visitors, or where the form is one it cannot fill in, you get the link and apply yourself. And it is not free: there is no trial, and plans start at 10 dollars a month.
You also remain responsible for what is sent in your name. Keep your profile true and current, read what was changed in a tailored CV before an interview, and point it only at jobs you would accept.
So, is it safe?
Done carefully, it is as safe as applying yourself, because it is the same application through the same form, sent sooner. Done carelessly, by a tool that guesses, invents and logs in where it should not, it can cost you interviews and accounts. The difference is in the answers to the questions above, so ask them.
Common questions
Will employers reject an application because it was sent by software?
An application sent through the employer's own form with your real details looks like any other, because it is one. What employers do reject is volume without fit: the same CV fired at every vacancy. A few sites also refuse automated visitors; Jobofinder tells you when that happens so you can apply by hand.
Is my data safe with Jobofinder?
Your profile, answers and any saved sign-ins are stored encrypted and used only to fill in your applications. Card payments are handled by Stripe, so we never see your card number. You can download everything we hold or delete your account from the Account page.
Can it apply to jobs I would not want?
It applies only to jobs that match the titles, place and employers you set. If you choose "Ask me first", nothing is sent without your yes. You also set the most applications it may send in a day.
