Who this search is for
Some people cannot work nine to five. Students have lectures, parents have the school day, and plenty of people already have a job and want a second one. Employers know this, and they often put the pattern straight into the job title: Weekend Barista, Evening Cleaner, Saturday Sales Assistant, Night Care Assistant.
This search looks for exactly those titles. It accepts a job when its title contains weekend, evening, night, Saturday or Sunday.
How to set it up
- Choose "Weekend and evening work" from the ready-made searches. The words to look for are filled in for you.
- Choose your country and town, and how far you are willing to travel. For a late finish, think about how you would get home before you choose a wide circle.
- Leave out what you do not want. "night" if you only want evenings, "driver" if you do not drive.
- Press "Show matching jobs" to see today's list, then start the search. New jobs arrive in a morning and an evening round-up.
Where these jobs usually are
Most weekend and evening work is in places that are open when offices are closed: shops and supermarkets, restaurants, bars and hotels, cinemas and venues, warehouses and delivery depots, care homes and hospitals, call centres, and cleaning and security firms. Tutoring and sports coaching are common evening jobs too.
Large employers in these fields often recruit through their own careers page. If there is one you would like to work for, add its careers page to your search: where that page runs on an application system Jobofinder can fill in, your application can be sent for you as soon as a matching job appears there.
Check the pay for unsocial hours
Whether evenings, nights and weekends are paid at a higher rate depends on the country and the employer. In some places a higher rate is set by law or by an industry award; in others it is up to the employer. The advert or the contract should say. Our country guides link to the official pay pages for the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia and India.
Common questions
Which jobs does this search find?
Jobs whose title names a weekend, an evening or a night: "Weekend Sales Assistant", "Evening Cleaner", "Saturday Receptionist", "Night Porter". It reads the title of each advert, so a job that only mentions weekend shifts further down the page is not included.
What if the job I want does not say "weekend" in its title?
Then use the "Any part-time job" search instead, or type the job title yourself and set the hours to part-time. Many shift jobs in shops, restaurants and care homes are advertised simply as part-time.
Can I leave out night work?
Yes. Type "night" in the box called "Leave out titles containing" and those jobs are dropped.
